Muslim man attacked for reading ‘Gita’ and ‘Ram Charita Manas’

A Muslim man was beaten while he was reading “Ram Charita Manas” and “Gita” at his house by some Muslim youths. The incident took place in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

According to The Times of India, on Thursday, Dilsher, 55, who works as a security guard in a local factory in Agra, was reciting Gita in his house when he was attacked. Two youths, Zakir and Samir, entered his house and beat him. They also broke his harmonium, took away the Gita and warned him not to read Hindu books or else he would have to face dire consequences.

Dilsher told the police, “I am a Muslim but religion doesn’t restrict me from reading holy books of other communities. Reading the scriptures gives me mental peace. However, I face protests from my own community from time to time”.

A complaint has been registered against the youths and some unidentified person under The India Penal Code (IPC) section 298 at the Delhi Gate police station.
