The Hush Post: An army jawan was allegedly shot dead by a person in a market in the Bareilly Cantonment area after he opposed the sexual harassment of a fellow army man’s wife.
Lance Naik Anil Kumar was shot at about 1 pm at BI Bazaar by Dhruv Chaudhary, who lives in Kori Mohalla of Sadar Bazaar which falls in the Cantonment’s civil area. Anil was rushed to the military hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Anil was a native of Khatima in Uttarakhand. He is survived by two children studying in class III and VI, and his wife, who live in Khatima.
According to the police, Dhruv’s brother Rajesh had passed lewd remarks on a woman, who is the wife of an Army subedar, a week ago in the market when she was buying groceries. “The subedar was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh recently while his family lives here in rental accommodation. She informed her husband over the phone about the harassment,” cantonment police station in-charge inspector Vijay Pal told a national newspaper,
The subedar told Anil about the incident. Two days ago, Anil went to Rajesh’s house to warn him but he was not there. Around 1 pm on Wednesday, Anil again went to Rajesh’s house to dissuade him from harassing the woman. Rajesh informed his brother Dhruv on the phone. Anil was halfway back home when Dhruv spotted him in the market. Dhruv confronted the army man, abused him and shot him twice,” Pal added.
Superintendent of police RS Sajwan said that after the murder, Dhruv arrived at Kotwali police station to surrender.
