Journalist, his brother shot dead in Saharanpur, UP

A journalist and his brother were shot dead allegedly by goons of liquor mafia in Saharanpur, UP on Sunday. The journalist, Ashish Janwani who worked with a leading Hindi newspaper had been threatened earlier too.
Talking to mediapersons, Superintendent of Police (City) Vineet Bhatnagar said, “As per the information we have, two families living opposite each other got involved in a quarrel regarding throwing of cow dung. After a while, they started fighting with sticks. Some person believed to be from the other family shot Ashish and his brother.”
A relative of the journalist has claimed that the accused belong to a family that runs liquor business.
According to reports, the journalist died during treatment while his brother was killed on the spot after being shot at following the brawl. Deputy Inspector General, Upendra Agrawal, also reached the site.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested several people in connection with the incident for interrogation.
The murder of the journalist triggered widespread protests in the area. The residents alleged that despite continuous complaints by Ashish, the police did not taken any steps to ensure his safety.
