Man from Uttar Pradesh allegedly gave his 35-year-old daughter to his friends as ‘gift’ and then gang-rapes her with friends; police arrest one of the three accused

The Hush Post: In a crime that probably one has never heard of, a man from Uttar Pradesh raped his own daughter after giving her as a ‘gift’ to his friends. Man’s friends also gang-raped his 35-year-old daughter.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, about 70 kilometres from UP’s state capital Lucknow. The police have arrested one of the accused allegedly involved in the gang-rape, Times of India reported on Thursday.

According to police victim woman’s father, who is in late 50s and his daughter (the victim) had gone to a fair in Kamlapur locality on April 15 in the evening. After visiting the fair, the accused called his friend Maan Singh, a hardened criminal, there. The man along with his friend then convinced his daughter to go accompany them on a motorcycle and then took her at the place of another friend, Meraj.

The police said that at Meraj’s house, the victim’s father handed her over to his friends who took turns to rape her. More shockingly, her father also joined his friends in raping her. The woman was held captive in Meraj’s house for next one-and-a-half days till she managed to escape on Monday, police said. After reaching her home, the victim told the entire incident to her mother and an FIR was lodged against the accused on the same day.

The police arrested Meraj on Tuesday. Victim woman’s father and Maan Singh are absconding. The police said Meraj is in his early forties and is working as a quack in Kamlapur. “He claimed to be a medical practitioner but couldn’t produce a degree,” TOI quoted Sanjeet Sonkar, Kamlapur SHO, as saying. Meraj’s family members were away when the trio raped the woman, SHO Sonkar added.

Sureshrao A Kulkarni, superintendent of police (SP), Sitapur, said that the victim had been married 16 years back but had returned to her parents’ house within two years of her wedding after a dispute with her husband. Victim’s father had left the village in November 2017 after the allegations of an incestuous relationship with her daughter. “A panchayat was called and the father was arrested. He got bail in February this year,” SP Kulkarni was quoted as saying. After that, the woman started living separately with her teenager child.
