Apple executive Vivek Tiwari shot at by constable, dies; cop arrested

The Hush Post: A constable of Uttar Pradesh Police has been arrested. He has been charged with murder for shooting at an Apple executive from close range on Friday night.

Vivek Tiwari, area sales manager with Apple, was allegedly fired upon by constable Prashant Chowdhary. Lucknow Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani told mediapersons that cops opened fire on Tiwari after he refused to stop his vehicle. The deceased panicked and rammed the SUV into the pillar of an underpass. He suffered serious injuries in the accident. He was taken to a local hospital by the police but died during treatment, the top cop claimed.

The incident happened at around 1.30 am when Tiwari was heading home after the launch of iPhone X Plus. He was accompanied by one of his colleagues Sana Khan. The altercation occurred in Lucknow’s upscale Gomti Nagar extension area.

Sana Khan told the police that after they were fired at, Tiwari got scared and hit the car against a pillar of an underpass and sustained more injuries.

A post-mortem is being conducted to know whether Tiwari died of bullet injury or injuries sustained after his vehicle hit the pillar.

According to the police, after Tiwari was signalled to a police patrol party to stop for checking, he tried to flee. He sped away and hit a bike being ridden by two constables, who then chased him and shot at him. The constable fired in self-defence, an officer told IANS.

The second policeman has also been arrested. Medical examination of both the policemen is being conducted to ascertain whether they were drunk when the incident took place.
