A Prime Minister Narendra Modi admirer, a Muslim woman in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh decided to name her new-born ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’.
However, after failed attempts to convince Mainaz Begum, the mother, against it, the family in Parsapur Mahraur village has filed an affidavit seeking the registration of the name.
Mainaz came up with this idea as the names for the baby boy were being discussed on May 23, that’s when PM Narendra Modi won the Lok Sabha elections and for Mainaz, the PM’s name seemed apt for her newborn.
Her father-in-law Idrees said that people tried to change her mind but her decision remained the same. “Even her husband Mushtaq Ahmed, who works in Dubai, tried to ask her to drop the idea, but he also failed. Eventually, he ended up agreeing to her wish”, said Idrees.
After that, the family filed an affidavit addressed to the district magistrate and submitted it to Ghanshyam Pandey, the Assistant Development Officer (panchayat).
Pandey said that the application has been forwarded to the village panchayat secretary, who deals with registrations of births and deaths. He said that actions will be taken as per the law.
Also, the affidavit praised Modi’s initiative to end triple talaq.
Her father-in-law Idrees said that naming the child is family’s personal matter and no one should interfere.
