The Hush Post: Four people are confirmed dead after a six-storey building fell on another building in Greater Noida near Delhi last night. This resulted in subsequent collapse of the two buildings, one on another. At present, a dozen more people including children are feared trapped under the rubble.
The National Disaster Response Force, the police and the fire brigade are carrying out the rescue operations.
However, a one-year-old baby girl, her parents and her grandmother are those who also lived in the building and are feared trapped.
In the meanwhile, three people including the man who owned the under-construction site have been arrested.
Eighteen families lived in the four-floor building adjacent to the one which collapsed.
“We were on out dinner table when we heard a loud thud. We thought it was an earthquake. When we went out there was dust everywhere. We rushed out and saw the top floors of the building sinking,” Mintu Dekka, who lived next to the two buildings, reportedly said. While about 400 NDRF personnel are involved in the search and rescue efforts, 400 police personnel have been deployed in the area to control the crowd.
The locals say though the buildings collapsed at around 8:30 pm, the police reached the spot almost an hour after the incident.
Bodies of two people were first recovered from the remains of the four-storey building at around 1:15 am. At about 7:00 am, a third body was extricated.
The NDRF has sniffer dogs, sensors and cameras to scrutinise if there are people trapped under the rubble. Efforts are on to remove the debris.
