Section 144 of CrPC (Criminal Procedure Code) has reportedly been imposed in Noida ahead of Independence Day, Bakrid and Janmashtami. SP rank police officers have been asked to ensure the safety of the Kashmiri students in the region.
Alok Singh, Meerut IG (Rank) reportedly said, “There are many Kashmiri students present in Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Noida. In each of these three districts, we have appointed SP level officers who are in contact with colleges and universities. They will attend to any kind of security concerns.”
Also, Meerut SSP Ajay Sahni said that several companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary and RAF have been deployed in the city.
The decision came a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposal to remove article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Also, the Aligarh Muslim University has issued an advisory to their Kashmiri students of not going out of the campus premises.
According to the reports, there are almost 700 Kashmiri students enrolled in different courses at Aligarh Muslim University.
“The advisory is not in writing. It is more of a precaution keeping in view the security of the students of the university campus. The Kashmiri students are advised to stay in their hostels and avoid moving out for the time being,” said a university official.
District magistrate of Aligarh CB Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Aakash Kulhari visited different parts of the city on Monday to ensure the safety.
The Rapid Action Force in Aligarh imposed Section 144 of CrPC by conducting a flag march. Section 144 of CrPC prohibits an assembly of five or more than five persons at a place.
