The UP Govt also recommends a CBI probe in the alleged murder of the rape victim’s father while in judicial custody
The Hush Post: The Uttar Pradesh government on late Wednesday night, took a decision to book BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar for the rape of a teenaged girl from Unnao and refer the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI). The UP government also recommended a CBI probe in the alleged of the rape victim’s father while in judicial custody.
The government took this decision of a CBI investigation just after MLA Sengar made a dramatic appearance at Lucknow SSP’s official residence to deny that he had any role in the rape of the Unnao girl and the death of her father. Besides, the government has announced suspension of two senior doctors of Unnao district hospital. It has also announced a disciplinary action against jail department’s three other doctors for dereliction in duty and negligence in attending to the rape victim’s father, who died on Tuesday while in judicial custody.
Along with this, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) rank officer has been put under suspension for not attending to the repeated complaints of the rape victim and her family, The Times of India reported on Thursday.
Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary (Home), reportedly said the decision had been taken on the basis of an interim report by the additional director general (ADG), Lucknow Zone, Rajeev Krishna on late Wednesday evening.
Earlier, late on Wednesday, UP MLA accused of gang-rape, Kuldeep Singh Sengar reached the SSP Lucknow at his official residence. He said that he was available to police anytime they want him. Before what looked like a ‘surrender’ he met his ailing wife in the hospital. However, strangely this rape suspect was not arrested.
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Police had arrested his brother Atul Singh Sengar, for beating the father of a rape accused to death. A 16-year-old woman had alleged that BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his aides raped her last June. She also accused the police of inaction as it did not investigate her allegations. The police did not name Sengar in an official document that recorded her complaint, she alleged.
After the matter came into public domain as the issue got highlighted in the media, the UP government set up a special investigation team to look into the case.
The woman alleged that when her family returned to Unnao from Delhi earlier this month to file a petition seeking Kuldeep Sengar’s name be included in the rape complaint, his brother and his aides assaulted her father, who recently died.
