Unnao jail inmates’ flashing gun video goes viral, UP govt says pistol ‘made of clay’

Yesterday, a video went viral from Unnao district jail where the jail inmates were seen flashing country-made pistols inside the premises of prison. But today, the state home department clarified that the pistols were ‘made of clay’.

According to the reports, the weapons in the video looked real because the two inmates was a good painter. The action has been taken against four officials in this case.

The video of the inmates Amrish and Gaurav Pratap Singh was circulated on social media of June 23, said the police department. “Apart from this, all the food items seen in the video are regular items which are given to the inmates. None of the items are brought from outside or are objectionable,” the statement added.

The Additional Director General (Prisons), Anand Kumar said, “It was found in the investigation that the incident was done in collusion with some jail officials to put pressure on the jail administration.” He also said that the video dates back to February as the inmates can be seen in winter clothing.

“A report of the incident has been sent to the higher officials. Strict actions will be taken within 1-2 days,” said AK Singh Jail Superintendent.

An official said that Mata Prasad and Hemraj, jail warder Awadesh Sahu and Saleem Khan were found to be colluding with the inmates. Action has been initiated against them as per rules.

According to the statement, the inmate Amrish is serving a life term for murder and loot, while inmate Gaurav is serving the time for several cases of loot and murder.
