A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Shravasti district was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws on Friday evening. According to a report by NDTV, the incident happened after the woman tried to lodge a complaint against her husband for an attempt to divorce her using the outlawed ‘Triple Talaq’ practice on phone.
Shockingly, the police didn’t take any legal action and asked the couple to compromise and mutually settle their differences.
The father of the deceased reportedly claimed that his daughter Sayeeda was given ‘Triple Talaq’ over the phone on August 06. The woman’s husband Nafees works in Mumbai. Sayeeda went to the police station the same day to lodge a complaint. But the police sent her back and asked to wait for her husband to return from Mumbai.
The following day, there were heated arguments between Nafees and Syeeda over her move to file the complaint. Her in-laws reportedly doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze.
Police said that Sayeeda’s minor daughter was the eyewitness of this act.
Police has launched an investigation into the case. They have arrested Nafees and his father.
BS Dubey, a senior police officer said, “We have received a complaint. The body is being sent for post-mortem. They have named eight people in the FIR. We are making efforts to arrest everyone.”
However, on the issue of police refusing to file the victim’s complaint, the officer said that inquiries would be made.
