The Hush Post: The Uttar Pradesh UP Police arrested a man who carried out 65 thefts in order to fund his wife’s elections. Among the people he targeted were senior politicians of the state including a relative of a minister of state of UP Dr Mahendra Pratap Singh at Karmajeetpur village which falls under Kandhai police station.

Upon interrogation, it was found that he turned into a thief after his wife won a Gram pradhan elections in Madhawa village, Lalganj block of Pratapgarh district.

Panch Lal’s wife Sangeeta Verma had fought elections and won. Even the celebrations they did came out of the money which Panch Lal had stolen. He spent close to Rs 25 lakh on the celebration of his wife’s election win after borrowing from relatives.

When the relatives sought back their money, he organised gangs and carried out 65 thefts and burglaries over a period of three years.

More recently, the gang targeted 10 houses which included a house of a minister’s relative. Following the theft, IG crime visited the spot and started investigating which led to Panch Lal.

After carrying out thefts, mostly gold and silver, they would go to a jeweller and for each piece of jewellery get 60 per cent of the cost.

The man had since been arrested along with his accomplices.
