The Muslim boy and the girl from Hindu community had met in a temple in Girija village where they were caught by an angry crowd
The Hush Post: A Sikh cop in Uttarakhand protected a Muslim boy from an irate crowd in state’s Ramnagar town as the crow wanted to beat him up after he was found with a girl from other religion in a temple.
The Muslim boy and the girl from Hindu community had met in a temple in Girija village where they were caught by a group of violent men, a report said.
A video has now gone viral on social media showing a Sub-Inspector (SI) Gagandeep Singh saving the Muslim boy, fearing the irate crowd may lynch the youth to death. The video shows SI Gagandeep Singh confronting the group of men all alone while protecting the boy from those who were baying for his blood. Another police officer was seen trying to keep the mob at bay, the report said.
When the cop denied giving the boy to the crowd, the group started raising slogans against the police. The crowd shut the gate of the temple and continuously tried to beat the boy, it was reported.
The protection that SI Gagandeep Singh provided to the boy didn’t go down well with the crowd. Quoting the witnesses, The Lallantop reported that the boy was sitting on the floor after being beaten up by the irate crowd, and the girl was arguing with them.
When the girl asked a man why he had thrashed the boy, the man replied: “We will chop him to pieces. You are a Hindu and roaming around with a Mulsim man. I will chop you too.”
“Two boys and a girl were sitting inside the temple. Some of the other attendees and workers at the temple raised an objection. Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh happened to be there. He took control of the situation and rescued the boy from the spot,” a cop from Ramnagar police station was quoted as saying by The Quint.
The police reportedly said that they had contacted the families of the boy and the girl. “We called their families and handed them over,” the police was quoted as saying.
The angry mob had already thrashed the boy and one of his friends by the time police arrived at the scene.
