THE HUSH POST: The body of an aide of the slain gangster Vicky Gounder was found under mysterious circumstances in Jaffarwal village in Gurdaspur district on Wednesday. Jagroop Singh, 32, who was the sarpanch of the village, was found dead near a drain with him foaming at the mouth.
According to a report, Dhariwal station house officer (SHO) Amandeep Singh Randhawa said foaming at the mouth could possibly indicate poisoning. Police also recovered his scooter from the spot. The body has been sent to the Gurdaspur civil hospital for post-mortem and a case has been registered.
Police have recorded the statement of Jagroop’s mother, Parminder Kaur, who said that he had left for Dhariwal on his scooter on Tuesday evening.
In June last year, Jagroop along with his brother-in-law Gagandeep Singh was arrested for sheltering members of the dreaded Vicky Gounder gang. He was reportedly released on bail a few months ago. Police told that Jagroop used to provide cars and harbour to the members of the Gounder gang. His car was used by the gang members to kill three members of a rival gang two years ago and the same vehicle was also used during Nabha jailbreak in November 2016 in which Vicky Gounder and four other had escaped.
It may be recalled that Gounder and his right-hand man Prema Lahoria were killed by Punjab Police in an encounter on the Rajasthan border in January this year. Before taking to the crime, Gounder was a national-level athlete and had won many medals and accolades.
