Election Commission has asked to register an FIR against BJP candidate from Asansol Babul Supriyo for entering the polling booth and questioning the Polling officer.
Caught in poll violence, BJP MP Babul Supriyo’s car was vandalised as he had a heated argument with polling officials in Asansol on Monday.
The BJP candidate from Asansol, Supriyo was on the way to a polling booth when his car was attacked. The rear windshield of his car was smashed in the clash outside the poll booth number 199.
Supriyo argued with the polling officers over his claims of booth capturing. He blamed the TMC party workers for barring BJP’s polling agents from entering the polling stations.
Supriyo said, “I have come here to see how the polling process was going on. But I found that the voters were not being allowed to cast their ballots. Our fight is to create a democracy. It is shameful that I am saying this in a democratic country.”
However, an EC official said that polling has so far been peaceful. “There are small incidents of violence from some booths which are immediately addressed. Our forces and officials are monitoring the situations in Asansol properly”, the official said.
Further he added, “We have sought a report from the presiding officer about Babu Supriyo’s doings inside the polling station.”
Both TMC and BJP have accused each other for instigating violence. Supriyo claimed that polling booths in Damra, Chittaranjan and Raniganj had been captured and BJP polling agents had been chased off. Also, in a tweet, he alleged “violence and brutal intimidation” on part of TMC workers.
Seeking re-elections from Asansol, Supriyo is contesting the elections against TMC’s Moon Moonn Sen in the constituency.
