A Kolkata Court issued an arrest warrant against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday for a remark he had made last year regarding the formation of “Hindu Pakistan” last year.

Advocate Sumit Chowdhary has filed the case against Tharoor. A Metropolitan Magistrate court in the city issued an arrest warrant against Tharoor on the basis of the case filed.

In July last year, Tharoor had said that if BJP won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it would create a condition leading to the formation of ‘Hindu Pakistan.’

According to the reports, Shashi Tharoor was addressing an event in Thiruvananthapuram when he said that the BJP government will write a new constitution which will pave the way for India, much like Pakistan, where the rights of the minorities will be not be respected.

The Congress leader had reportedly said, “If they (BJP) win a repeat in Lok Sabha, our democratic constitution as we understand it will not survive as they will have all the elements they need to tear apart the constitution of India and write a new one.”

Further, he had added, “That new constitution will be one which will enshrine principles of Hindu Rashtra, that will remove equality for minorities, that will create a Hindu Pakistan and that is not what Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad and great heroes of freedom struggle fought for.”
