The Hush Post: Union Minister Babul Supriyo has strongly retaliated against the FIR filed against him and has lodged a counter-complaint against the police for misbehaving with him at Asansol.
The case pertains to the police filing an FIR against Supriyo for misbehaving with an IPS officer and flouting prohibitory orders in Asansol.
On his part, Babul Supriyo filed a complaint against the police for misbehaviour.
The case pertains to when Babul Supriyo was not allowed to enter Railpar area in Paschim Bardhaman district yesterday. The police patrolling the area stopped him from entering citing security concerns.
It is also reported that people were shouting slogans against Babul Supriyo and demanding that he go back. On the other hand, the Minister reacted saying that he “had every right to visit his constituency.’’
Supriyo said: “As a public representative, I have every right to visit my constituency, especially when people are in trouble. It is my duty. But the police is saying I won’t be allowed to go as Section 144 is imposed in the area. Being a minister, I cannot violate rules.’’
The Minister and the Police then got into a physical confrontation which was also caught on tape.
Strongly reacting on twitter, Supriyo condemned the police for “unrestrained atrocities on common people.’’ He went ahead and also accused leaders of the Trinamool Congress and “gundas’’ of siding with the police to trouble the common people.
His tweets read like this: “It is very sad that 218 high secondary students from my Asansol and Raniganj area could not sit for their exams because of the goverment’s incapibility. Why shouldn’t that be? In a place where a dozen of IPS officers are busy misbehaving with me shamelessly…it is needless to say that police will be uncontrollably atrocitious towards common people.’’
“Trinamool leaders, gundas and police have come together to do politics of scaring people. My belief is that they will not be able to supress people in such way for long.’’
The Police had also stopped West Bengal BJP Mahila Morcha president Locket Chatterjee at Durgapur. She was on her way to Raniganj. The actress-turned-politician staged a sit-in in protest.
All this law and order issue has broken out following communal violence post a Ram Navami procession in the Asansol-Raniganj area. Constant police is patrolling is on in the area.
