The CBI has filed a chargesheet against Nalini Chidambaram, the wife of former finance minister P Chidambaram. She has been accused of taking a bribe of Rs 1.4 crore in the Saradha scam. The chargesheet has been filed in the Barasat court in Kolkata.
According to CBI, Nalini Chidambaram was involved in a criminal conspiracy with Sudipta Sen. Sudipta Sen is the soul proprietor and promoter of Saradha group. Both the women had intentions of cheating and misappropriation of funds. CBI spokesperson, Abhishek Dayal said, Nalini took Rs 1.4 crore between 2010 to 2014.
Also, the CBI alleged that Manoranjana Sinh, the estranged wife of former Union minister Matang Sinh, introduced Sen to Nalini Chidambaram to manage probes by various agencies like SEBI, ROC against him for which she allegedly received Rs 1.4 crore during 2010-12 through his companies.
The Saradha group had raised Rs 2,500 crore from people luring them with attractive interest rates which were not repaid. Later, in 2013 after failing to pay returns, Sen closed the operations of company. However, in September 2016, Nalini Chidambaram was first summoned as a witness in the Saradha chit fund scam case.
This is the sixth chargesheet that has been filed by CBI in the Saradha scam case.
