A weird incident happened in Narendrapur area of Kolkata where a thief entered a widow’s house in her absence, cooked a meal, slept in the bedroom, exchanged a low watt bulb in the bedroom with high powered one and fled with some gold and Rs 48,000.
According to a news report in a national daily, the widow Shefali Sardar went to visit her pregnant daughter in Sonarpur on Friday evening. She had planned to return home on Friday itself but it started raining and she had to stay at her daughter’s place. The widow lived alone in her house as her son works in Bengaluru.
The widow reportedly said, “When I returned home, I was surprised to find the kitchen door open. The kitchen was untidy and someone had cooked rice and potato fries and eaten them off. An unwashed plate was lying in the sink. Remnants of the rice and fries were on the plate.”
Further, she said, “I noticed that someone had slept on my bed and the almirah was broken. My son-in-law had given me Rs 45,000 and I had savings of Rs 3,000. All the money and some gold were gone. I also realised that the low-power bulb in my bedroom had been replaced with a powerful one from another room.”
The police said that they were probing the complaint and verifying the claim of the amount stolen.
