The Hush Post: In a shocking and shameful incident a woman from Kolkata severely beat up her elderly mother-in-law over a petty issue of plucking flowers with the permission of former. A neighbour captured this incident on his mobile phone and put it on social media and it has gone viral.
But neither the elderly woman complained to the police as she is too old nor the neighbour lodged any complaint with the cops, a report said.
The incident came to light when a Bansdroni police station official, Sgt Subhra Chakraborty, saw the video clip, captured by the elderly woman’s neighbour , on the social media. The clip got total 5,03,000 views, 8,300 likes and 25,000 shares within hours of its being uploaded on the social media, the report said.
The cops immediately came into action after Chakraborty brought the incident to the notice of his officer-in-charge. Rantu Sengupta, from whose account the video was uploaded, did not disclose the place of occurrence of the crime, despite being assured by the police to keep his identity safe, the report said.
The cops came to know about the details of Sengupta from his Facebook account and reached his place. After much coaxing, Sengupta disclosed that he got the video from a doctor in Bholar Bazar area.
In his turn, the doctor said a medical representative of Kolkata sent him the clip. “The incident happened at Panchanantala, Garia,” the doctor told the police. Despite several efforts, police could not reach the medical representative. Finally, they drove through Panchanantala area with the photos of the victim and the accused, the report said.
Finally, the victim was identified as a 75-year-old Jashoda Paul, wife of late Santosh Paul of Boral Uttarpara. The woman who beat her up was her 40-year-old daughter-in-law Swapna Paul, wife of Ranjit Paul. The police said Jashoda Paul is a patient of amnesia. Swapna Paul used to stay in Jasoda’s house.
Jashoda’s grandsons, who were in the house, were probably sleeping when the incident occurred.
