Woman molested at Esplanade Metro Station in Kolkata; Police arrest 10

The police in Kolkata have arrested 10 persons on the charges of molesting a woman at Esplanade Metro Station.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around when a woman boarded a Metro from the Esplanade station. A group of 10 men at the Esplanade Metro Station in the southern city molested her, a report said.

The police have arrested all of the accused after a complaint from the victim, a Kolkata Police official said.

The men started harassing the victim and when she got off at the Mahanayak Uttamkumar station, the men molested her.

The victim, a resident of Hooghly district’s Konnagar, complained to the RPF personnel following which the 10 were detained.

The RPF then handed over them to police personnel at the Regent Park Police Station who arrested them.

The police have booked them under IPC sections 354 (use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 354B (assaulting a woman with the intention of disrobing or compelling her to be naked).

The cops have also booked them under IPC section 509 (word or gesture intended to hurt the modesty of a woman) and section 34 (criminal act done by several persons).
