The Hush Post: A 21-year-old man allegedly ended his life after his recently-wedded wife refused to observe the ‘Karva Chauth’ fast. The incident took place in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening.
Deep Chand was found hanging from the ceiling fan of a room in his house in Maghera under Jait police outpost, police reportedly said.
Vrindavan police station in-charge Ram Pal Singh Bhati said “No suicide note has been found,” adding that the couple, who had married just three months ago, had a dispute over ‘Karva Chauth’ fast.
“The deceased wanted his wife to observe the fast, but the woman refused to fast,” said Bhati.
‘Karwa Chauth’ is observed by married women to pray for the long life of their husbands according to a traditional Hindu myth.
Sources said the woman had refused to fast on account of poor health. Her mother-in-law had also backed her. However, Deep was firm that she should fast and reportedly locked himself in a room. In the morning, the family found him hung to the ceiling. His wife raised an alarm but by the time the room could be opened, he had ended his life. Police said they have sent Deepak’s body for post-mortem.
