Another shocker from water-deficient Shimla: Woman dies after being hit by water tanker on the Mall Road

The Hush  Post: A 65-year-old woman died today after being allegedly hit by a private water tanker on the Mall road in Shimla, according to an ANI news report.

The woman was taken to the Indira Gandhi Medical College where she was declared brought dead.  She was hit by the water tanker near  Sher-e-Punjab on the Mall Road. The driver of the tanker is said to have had a history of epilepsy. He has been arrested, ASP Shimla Praveer Thakur told mediapersons. The angry mob rushed to beat him up but he was lying unconscious with froth coming out of his mouth, another news report said.

The woman, identified as Uma Keprate, was a resident of Chadyana village in Kotkhai, and lived in Chotta Shimla.  She was walking along with her daughter-in-law and grandchildren when she was hit by the water tanker following which her head collided with the railings. She suffered injuries on the head, neck and chest.

The municipal corporation has been distributing water under police protection. Over 70 police personnel have been specifically deployed to deal with the situation in the water-deprived hill station.
