Aruna Reddy wins bronze in World Cup gymnastics at Melbourne, first Indian to do so

Aruna Reddy wins first ever World Cup gymnastics bronze medal for India in women’s vault.

The Hush Post: After Deepa Karmakar, India has another gymnast prodigy finally. Aruna Budda Reddy is the first Indian gymnast to win a gymnastics medal at the World Cup. Aruna won a bronze medal to clinch an individual medal at Gymnastics World Cup being held at Melbourne. She won the medal in women’s vault. 22-year-old Aruna scored 13.649 to end up at number three position. The gold went to Tjasa Kysslef of Slovania while Emily Whitehead of Australia won silver. The other Indian woman in the competition was Pranati Nayak who was sixth with a score of 13.416. Aruna is a black-belt in Karate.

Gymnastics in India first got a major fillip after Ashish Kumar of Lucknow became the first Indian to win bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Dipa Karmakar came very close to winning the bronze medal.
